A simple smile can be so complex and an invaluable asset. A large percentage of the population says they are not happy with their smile. A smile is the driving force in establishing your self-esteem and self-confidence. When you smile you release endorphins, natural painkillers and serotonin. These three neurotransmitters together make us just feel good about ourselves. It boosts your immune system and relieves stress. A smile is also very contagious.

Over time as we age our smiles will change. Our teeth may become yellow, cracked or chipped and worn down. You just may need to have your smile assessed and engage in some cosmetic dentistry to get your original, natural smile back.

The first thing to consider in addressing your smile design is to call Dr. Dolgov at 815-939-2520. He and his staff at Bourbonnias Family Dental will evaluate your smile, personal situation and discuss how a procedure or two can improve your smile. Feel free to stop by our office at 498 Brown Blvd., Bourbonnias, IL 60914, if you would like to meet any of the staff before you schedule an evaluation.

Common Procedures that help with the Smile Design Process

Once we have completed our evaluation and any health-related procedures, we can embark on our smile design plan. The following procedures are all very common in addressing different issues related to your smile. Your plan may include just one procedure or a combination of several.

  • Teeth Whitening-The most common of the procedures most everyone that comes into our office can benefit from this simple practice. The culprit might be coffee, tea, colas, red wine or your love for berries. It might be that you smoke. Over time the teeth naturally will discolor or stain. Until you improve the shade of white you will not be aware of the dramatic difference this can make with your smile.
  • Porcelain Crowns- There may be one tooth in your smile that still needs help. A porcelain crown is a fabricated shield or cap that covers all four sides of the tooth. The shade can match your natural teeth and can cover up cracks, chips or broken teeth.
  • Porcelain Veneers- A very popular procedure, the porcelain is again a micro thin shield that is bonded to just the front of the tooth. They will cover all imperfections in the tooth and are strong and durable. Most often more than one veneer is the design solution for consistency in the smile.
  • Composite Veneers- We can apply a putty-like plastic resin on the front of a tooth or several teeth. We can shape, mold and sculpt this resin prior to curing and hardening it and smoothing it. Not as strong as porcelain but an easier way to cover up a crack or chip. In fact, this method works well in closing a gap between two teeth.
  • Dental Bridge- A traditional method to fill a gap from a missing tooth. A pontic, or artificial tooth, is suspended in that gap and anchored by a neighboring tooth or the teeth on each side of the gap.
  • Dental Implants-The best way available today to replace a missing tooth. By implanting a titanium post into the jaw, allowing that post to fuse to the bone, and then placing a porcelain or ceramic crown on the top, it will look totally natural when finished.
  • Orthodontics- Still the best way to address any crooked teeth. Today there are various methods of applying pressures in moving teeth.

What exactly is the Smile Design Procedure?

It’s a customized design plan just for you and your smile. We will start with some foundational basics with an evaluation and several x-rays to determine overall oral health. We will want to address any health issues prior to developing our cosmetic plan. Fundamental health issues will include the presence of gum disease and any tooth decay or immediate repair issues that influence our moving forward. These issues need to be mitigated prior to the advancement with a smile design plan.

After that we segue into the aesthetics of your smile and identify the following list that will affect your smile.

  • If your teeth are discolored or stained, changing slowly over time and going undetected.
  • Cracked, chipped or broken teeth that can be repaired.
  • A tooth that is missing that needs to be replaced.
  • A gap between two teeth affecting spacing.
  • Crooked teeth or overcrowded teeth.
  • Teeth that don’t appear to have the right shape or size.
  • The proportion balance between teeth and gums during a smile.

The Various Costs that may come from your Smile Design Plan and the Insurance Coverage Available

The costs that will be associated with your smile design will be discussed at the time of your evaluation and consultation. The plan may include only one of the procedures or it could easily combine two or three. The number of procedures and the number of visits for completion play a role. The administrative staff at Bourbonnias Family Dental will inquire with your dental insurance carrier to determine the amount of coverage for each procedure. If there will be a balance due a payment plan can and will be discussed if that is your wish. We also accept all major credit cards. We may also revisit our options if your budget has some financial limitations in completing our smile design plan.
